Colima internships

Jessica Moore - Project Officer : Community Development

jessica_webOriginally from the hamlet of Churchill, Ontario and now living in Toronto, I have been able to experience and appreciate both rural and urban settings and the relationship between them. I have a B.A. in Spanish & Latin American Studies from the University of Waterloo and a Postgraduate Certificate in International Project Management. The two programs allow me to make the link between the knowledge I have regarding the region and the current social issues it faces. Latin America, as a whole, is engaging in some really interesting sustainability initiatives and having prior experience working within urban sustainability and ‘people-oriented’ cities, I am very excited to expand my practice to Colima, Mexico.

My challenge in Colima with IPCo will be to carry on the foundation of participatory community involvement within the planning process, specifically regarding issues of mobility. I am very much looking forward to the challenge and hope that my work and enthusiasm will contribute to IPCo’s vision for the city.

breanne_web

My name is Breanne Harder and I am the Project Officer for Urban Planning - Public Space in Colima, Mexico. Over the next six months I will be working with an enthusiastic and youthful team at El Instituto de Planeación para el Municipio de Colima (IPCo).

I recently completed a Master of Planning at Dalhousie University and also possess a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Calgary. I am passionate about cities and how design can facilitate social interaction in public urban spaces. Fortunately, my internship with Sustainable Cities will allow me to further explore this interest in a practical manner by investigating approaches to enhance the accessibility of public spaces in Colima.

Also previously studying Spanish for a semester at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain, I am excited to continue to enhance my spanish language skills throughout my internship while discovering other aspects of Mexican culture, including the delicious local cuisine.
