Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanzania and the administrative and economic hub of the country. It has been a member of the Sustainable Cities PLUS Network since 2003. Dar es Salaam has tremendous potential as the gateway to some of Africa’s most celebrated tourist attractions as well as an innovative leader in youth engagement at the municipal level. However, Dar es Salaam struggles with a host of challenges, including unplanned settlements, insufficient municipal services, such as waste collection and water delivery, and a waterfront with unrealized potential. Interns in Dar es Salaam are working with our local Project Officer and the three municipalities to tackle these issues.
