Youth photo visioning

Iqaluit, Canada

In Iqaluit, Nunavut, Sustainable Cities ran two youth visioning workshops to develop a youth vision and priorities for the City's sustainability planning process. The first of the workshops, entitled "Tools for Change: Actively Engaging Youth," targeted city planners, elected officials, teachers, youth workers and other service providers interested in engaging youth in community issues. The second workshop, entitled "Youth Vision," involved several days of youth visioning activities including photo visioning, asset mapping, peer-to-peer interviewing, creating an 'Innukshuk' for the future, and building models of the ideal future community. Both workshops were held in partnership with the Youth Centre and laid a foundation for further action and idea gathering with and by youth in Iqaluit. The results were presented to Iqaluit's City Council by the City's Sustainability Planning Officer and youth participants.
