Community Mapping and Visioning
|
The City of Dawson Creek in British Columbia is working toward becoming a youth-friendly community. The first step in this process was to hire a summer intern to work as a Youth Engagement Coordinator for the City. ICSC trained and supported Dawson Creek's Youth Engagement Coordinator in facilitating a youth visioning process and developing a community asset map and youth guide for the city. The Youth Guide includes the youth vision and youth-generated asset maps of services, resources and places for youth. The City of Dawson Creek's youth also coordinated “Youth Said,” an event that included a photo display at a local art gallery and local youth speakers presenting on the community's assets and their future visions.
Sustainable Cities intern Bryna Casey worked as the Youth Engagement Coordinator for the City of Dawson Creek for the summer of 2007. Through the youth visioning and asset mapping workshops, she worked with Sustainable Cities and the Environmental Youth Alliance to develop the Dawson Creek Youth Guide that identifies youth services, resources and places where young people are uncomfortable in the City.
