Sustainable Cities International, in collaboration with leadership development consultants, is offering a service to municipalities that will help build leadership capacity amongst their staff and within their community to meet their sustainability goals. The service is grounded in the concept of co-creation which ties together two elements; design thinking – a methodology increasingly used by businesses and less frequently by the public sector to build personal and organizational capacity for innovation and; strategic citizen and stakeholder involvement (both in policy design and implementation). This ‘human centered’ approach to innovation is the key to creating sustainable futures; for a product, a service, an organization or a city.

• Strategic stakeholder analysis – Getting the right mix and number of stakeholders is a challenge within the budget and time constraints of many projects. Sustainable Cities can work with you to develop a strategic stakeholder analysis that will ensure your project benefits from a rigorous and balanced approach to stakeholder selection.
• Design of stakeholder engagement processes – Sustainable Cities can work with you to design and cost a stakeholder engagement process that is unique to the needs of your project.

• Write up of case studies – Many municipal practitioners are too busy to capture and record their experiences of working on innovative projects. In addition to raising the profile of the municipality, this experience is tremendously valuable to other sustainability practitioners and ads to the body of knowledge. Sustainable Cities can undertake interviews and write up case studies in order to share best practices.
• Reviews and recommendations on good practices – Sustainable Cities can research and review good practices within the municipal sector focusing on policy, planning or technical practices. Analysis can include recommendations on the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
