Two of our member cities (Calgary and North Vancouver) have been recognized in a prestigious award won by the Design Centre for Sustainability at UBC. Both cities worked with the Design Centre, collaborating on research around quantifying greenhouse gas emissions from land use and transportation patterns. The research was entitled ‘Getting to Minus 80: Defining the Contribution of Urban Form to Achieving Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets’. Pat Gordon, our PLUS Network Senior Program Officer, led the work when she was with the City of Calgary. Pat said, ‘Working with the researchers at the Design Centre at UBC was very useful for us. They supplied considerable academic rigor to our city-wide planning work. This award is well deserved and they are to be congratulated!”
