On Friday, April 23rd, Colima’s Institute for Planning for the Municipality of Colima received the Special National Prize for Urban Transportation and Mobility after presenting their most recent initiatives at an international forum. The honorable mention was focused on their project “Contributions from a Small City on Transportation and Mobility in Mexico: A Case Study of the Urban Metropolitan Zone of Colima”.
The presentation narrated the changes that have occurred in Colima based on the collective vision for the future of transportation and mobility in the city. The visioning and implementation process started with the First Urban Forum, in February 2009, and resulted in the publication of the State Plan for Development, which includes new and strengthened strategies for mobility and transportation for the metropolitan zone of Colima. The process has included comprehensive public participation processes that have helped to weave in social support for the initiative, reinforcing that the community has an important role to play in developing public policy.
