Demonstrating the same initiative that recently made the Town of Olds Alberta's first officially-designated Fair Trade Community, Olds was also the first to follow through with the guidelines of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association for integrated sustainability planning. Now, as a result of that initiative, Olds has become the newest member of the Sustainable Cities PLUS (Partners for Long-term Urban Sustainability) Network based in Vancouver.

"We welcome the Town of Olds into the Network," said Patricia Gordon, PLUS Network Coordinator. "They have a proven track record and commitment to a sustainable future and we look forward to sharing their knowledge and experience with other towns and cities around the world.”

During 2007 and 2008 the Town of Olds worked with the Olds Institute for Community and Regional Development and the Olds Advisory Group for Sustainable Living to produce the Olds Strategic Sustainability Plan. This integrated community sustainability plan (ICSP) allows the Town to apply for Federal Canadian Government Grants for sustainable water, transportation and other infrastructure.
