Sustainable Cities International was commissioned by United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) to research and write a section of a policy paper on urban strategic planning entitled "Local Leaders Preparing for the Future of Our Cities". The North American chapter of the report (pages 107 – 134) includes sections on: context and challenges; trends; case studies (mostly from the Sustainable Cities International Network); and conclusions and recommendations.

Canada's World is a one-year collaboration of dozens of Canadian universities, foundations, private and non-profit organizations that uses dialogue, 'open source' and Web 2.0 tools such as forums, blogs and social media to broaden the discussion of Canadian foreign policy. The dialogues involved thousands of citizens in laying out a blueprint for how  Canada can serve as a role model in the world.  ICSC contributed the background paper on "The Power of Cities."
